MJLL ALL STAR SELECTION PROCESS

All-Star Selection and Procedure Guidelines

General Principles:

  • All rostered players are eligible for all-stars in their league age division of play
  • The League’s Board will decide on the number of teams to be selected in each division of play before the end of the regular season.
  • The League’s Board will approve a method for all-star selection based on the contribution of player votes and manager votes.  Only the team manager and eligible players, within each division of play, will be allowed to vote during voting process. Both player and coaches’ votes will be used to compute the total number of votes received by each player.  At the approval of the board, an all-star selection committee may be approved to assist the President with team selection based on the highest number of votes received by each player within each division of play. Voting will be held during a one (1) week period as approved by the board; The League’s Board members will oversee the voting and computation process.
  • Coaches will be selected  by a vote of the League’s Board members.
  • All-Star coaches will be selected from those persons who served as managers and/or assistant coaches during the regular season within the same division of play being considered and listed in the Little League Baseball, Inc. database as of that year. There will be 1 manager and 2 assistant coaches selected for each all-star team (2 coaches if only 12 players).

Specific Guidelines:

  • Majors 10/11/12 (LL Majors All-Star tournament team) – players who are league age 10/11/12 who played in the Major division will vote on all players listed on the ballot which will include all league age 10, 11 and 12 year olds who played in the Majors division.  Managers and players will vote on 13 players who are league age 10, 11 and 12 who played in the Majors division.  Results will be calculated cumulative total unrelated to league age.  Each player will get 13 votes. Coach’s vote will count in proportion to the total number of players casting votes.
  • Majors 9/10/11 (9-11 Year Old All-Star tournament team) – the voting procedure shall be the same as in the above Majors 12/11/10 for all players who are league age 9, 10 and 11 who played in the Minor or Major division in the regular season.
  • Minors 8/9/10 (8-10 Year Old All-Star tournament teams) – the voting procedure shall be the same as in the above Majors 10/11/12 for all players who are league age 8, 9 and 10 who played in the Minor or Major division in the regular season. Exception: Each manager and player will get 26 votes if two (2) All-Star teams are to be selected.

Selection of Teams:

At the end of voting, results will be computed and verified for accuracy. Results will be provided to the President of the League.  Results will be confidential until the announcement of all-star teams (May 15, of current season or later).  The President of the League will select and contact, or cause to be contacted, those players selected to comprise the team based on the highest number of total votes received.  If a player declines, the other eligible players can be selected from the list.  The top 12 players will be automatically placed on the team and if the manager desires they can pick up to 2 additional players for a max of 14 (any player who receives votes).  The selection process will continue until the roster is complete.

With regard to a player being eligible for selection to more than one (1) All-Star team, no parent or Board member option in regard to which division of play any player is selected will be honored. Each player will be selected to one All-Star team in the division of play in which the respective player receives the highest ranking by votes as cast by the players and coaches within that respective division of play.
